We’ve not even turned off Prince Albert Road in Camden before herbalist Paula Grainger crouches down and starts tugging at the grassy verges.
‘Ribwort soothes midge and mosquito bites if rubbed on to the skin,’ she says, holding aloft an etiolated specimen that I would have dismissed as a weed. It also apparently strengthens the lungs and, presciently – given I’m sneezing like a banshee – is a great hayfever remedy.
‘Plants have a knack of coming into bloom during the seasons when they are most needed,’ remarks Grainger.
